Call of Duty: Modern Mayhem

Welcome to sunny Trebizon, the throbbing heart of the Borka Riviera. Here is a view of the famous resort of Epirou, with its numerous bars, restaurants and casinos. You are guaranteed a fun time in our high class, friendly resort!

It’s not just sun, sand and relaxation here though! Our internationally famous banking privacy laws and centuries of entrepreneurial enterprise have put us at the cutting edge of the Offshore Banking and Financial Services Industry. Our clientele come from all over the world and many leave their yachts in our marina, visiting them perhaps in their private jets and high performance speed boats.

Of course, in the 21st Century, any country has to think about security but here in Trebizon we have been proud hosts to the United Nations Mentoring Force Trebizon-Hav (UNMENTH) for some 15 years. You can be assured that the most modern security techniques are in use here by our Polizi, our National Guard and our elite, Spetznatz trained, Crisis Reaction Brigade.

Our history is a proud one – as the Levantine Republic of Hav-Trebizon, we fought for Independence from Alcovia, Byzerk, the Grande Porte, the Italians and the Germans. Over the years we have been a major Ally to the British (Epirou was called Port Havelock for five years and there is a statue of Queen Victoria in our Grand Square of The Republic!), the French, the Russians, Alcovia, and Italy (Garibaldi fought here too you know!).

So, for sun, sea, sand, discrete financial advice, an understanding and flexible maritime registry and a democratic regime with sound credentials – look no further than the Trebizon Riviera!

Trebizon Mafia

I placed a sceond order for MJ Figures new Falkland 1982 range this weekend. I decided to include some of Mark's new(ish) 20mm Mercenaries as they have a very Eastern European feel to them. Talking with Mark it appears I was correct and they were based on the upcoming film 5 Days of War about the recent Russian and Georgian punch up.

Maff picked some up at Penarth earlier in the year and sent me a padded envelope of assorted types. I was impressed enough back then to keep a mental note that I should get some more. What tipped the balance was seeing S&S Models new BMP-2s in Shaun's April Update, These guys principal role on my tabletop will be as Trebizon Mafiyozo or Slavikovan rebels.

Mark at MJ Figures will be releasing both 20mm Russian and Georgian figures suitable for the conflict later this summer. Hopefully in time for Bovington. I'll be keeping my eye out for those too.

 UPDATE 07/05/12

The MJ Mercs above are now on my painting bench. After a quick inspection, I'm happy that painted in assorted para-military and sports gear (tracksuits etc), they will be perfect as Eastern European types. The lack of support weapons will be made up from selected Platoon 20 East German and Russian CIS VDV packs.

POSSE COMITATUS
03/06/2012

I'm finally moving forward again with Posse Comitatus. Thanks largely to finding an inexpensive source of HO scale American buildings that match my vision for the project - inspired by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

These are download and print models from www.ModelRailroadLayoutsandScenery.com. I Google Mapped some American suburban areas and found that yup, these will do nicely.

Further Googling of Country Club Estate, Long Beach California (if you're a John Hughes fan you'll know why) and Meridian, Fairview & Oxley Avenues, Pasadena, California (for John Carpernter fans) gave me further inspiration. Whilst Im sure suburban America is very diverse, (I lived in New Brunswick, New Jersey) for some time, you have to remember that our culutural references on this side of the pond are more Wisteria Lane (Colonial Street, Universal Studios) than real life downtown Illinois.

Anyhoo, a range of these downloadable models are slated for purchase in July as I'm out of wargame funds just now.

FIGURE IDEAS
 01/07/12

I've been doing some research on American Militia Groups over the past week. Now I admit up front that I have barely scratched the surface of this topic but have nevertheless come to some decisions about the figures to use in my forthcoming games.

The first big decsion is that for the main part, government forces will wear helmets whilst Militia or other political guerrilla forces will wear boonies (as in pic above), caps or simply remain bareheaded.

Second decision, is that I'm not going to get anal about small arms. In the main, photos seem to show a mix of personal weapons within militia groups with M16, AK47, SKS, HK, FN FAL, shotguns, sniper and hunting rifles being carried side by side, which allows for a much broader range of figures to be employed for that citizen army feel.

I'll go into my choice of figures in greater detail later in the week and do a quick overview of the minis that are currently available in 15mm that can be used for this project.

Cheers

Getting this rolling again with some of these from Flytrap Factory now that the international shipping has come down to something that doesnt shake credulity and I've given up waiting for either their Late War Germans or any USMC support weapons to appear.

  1. This was my first post over on Crisis In Alcovia; it started a whole new plotline of SAS and MI6 involvement in the murky world of the Borku. With the Civil War in Alcovia apparently winding down, the question has to be asked....what does this mean for Trebizon? Loud noises and unexplained power cuts would seem to be the answer. Even as we speak, Capt Price has a messy operation looming in a breakaway state whose name is CLASSIFIED and Badger One - a hitherto unrevealed asset has ears on an interesting conversation. Mr Hannam has large numbers of former Warpact "advisors" now redundant from Alcovia who are looking for a steady income. So interesting times are guaranteed. An off the record quote from Captain P "Of course we'll respect the Alcovia no fly zone, until we have to ignore it."

    Cheers
